How to Make Your Scented Candles Last Longer

If you love scented candles, you’ve probably wondered how to make them burn slower and last longer. Many people burn candles the wrong way, which makes them melt unevenly, waste wax, and lose their scent quickly. With a few simple habits, you can easily extend the life of your favorite candles and get the most value out of every one.

1. Let the wax melt all the way across

The first burn is the most important. When you light your candle for the first time, let it burn until the entire top layer of wax is liquid. This usually takes 1–2 hours. If you blow it out too early, your candle will form a “tunnel” down the middle and waste most of the wax around the edges.

2. Always trim the wick before lighting

A long wick causes big, flickering flames that burn wax too fast. Trim your wick to about 1/4 inch each time before you light it. This keeps the flame clean, helps the scent throw better, and makes your candle last significantly longer.

3. Don’t burn for more than 3–4 hours at a time

Burning a candle too long overheats the wax and shortens its total lifespan. Stick to 2–3 hour sessions. This small change alone can make your candle last much longer.

4. Keep candles away from wind and fans

Drafts make the flame dance and burn unevenly. Place your candle in a still area, away from open windows, fans, or air conditioners. A steady flame = slower, more even burning.

5. Store candles properly when not in use

Keep your candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Heat and light can soften wax and weaken the fragrance. Proper storage keeps your candle fresh until you’re ready to burn it.

By following these simple steps, your scented candles will burn slower, smell stronger, and last much longer. At Delphy Candle, we create clean, long-lasting candles designed to fill your space with calm and warmth. With proper care, you can enjoy every moment of your favorite scents.
